Social Media Manager

at Creative Spark in Johannesburg

Creative Spark is a fast-growing, young, ambitious 40-person digital agency and online publishing business. Now part of the M&C Saatchi Group with offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg, we are looking for a Social Media Manager to be part of our ambitious growth plans in Johannesburg.

We run five award-winning online brands, including, that are locally and internationally reputable, and our digital agency services clients like ETV, Philips, Heineken and Kimberly Clark. We’re a fast-paced business that employs ambitious and committed people that want to go places, grow with the company and make an impact on the world. We work on a number of exciting and high-profile local and international corporate and media projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and execute social media content and strategy for Creative Spark client campaigns:

  • Creating content plans in line with a brand’s social media strategy and tone
  • Ensuring content is posted timeously across social media platforms
  • Writing content that is suitable for various social media platforms
  • Responding to and addressing the community’s queries and complaints efficiently, professionally and timeously
  • Briefing in images to a design team in a clear and concise manner
  • Liaising with client and or Account Manager to address key queries around social media
  • Driving engagement and conversations with the community and ultimately establishing brand loyalty
  • Identifying tactical and relevant opportunities to engage with the community
  • Working closely with the Analytics team to drive positive sentiment and optimise on content
  • Executing and optimising content during campaigns to ensure momentum and optimal visibility
  • Live tweeting from events
  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest trends within the digital and social media landscape
  • Inputting into campaign ideas and creative brainstorming sessions
  • Executing social media competitions and collating entries
  • Compiling weekly / monthly social media platform reports and campaign reports
  • Monitor effective benchmarks (best practices) for measuring the impact of Social Media campaigns.
  • Analyse, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximise results

Experience & Skills

  • Time management and multitasking skills – ability to prioritise and track time
  • Displays in-depth knowledge, understanding & proficiency of Social Media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest, as well as emerging platforms etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Conceptualisation of campaign ideas according to client briefs and proactive agency work
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience fulfilling the Social Media Manager role agency or client side
  • Critical analysis of social media data in order to pull out key learnings to client
  • Is a team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary (i.e.: content development, creation and editing of content, and online reputation management)
  • Good technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly
  • Maintains a working knowledge of principles of SEO including keyword research. Highly knowledgeable in the principles of “Search and Social”.
  • Professional demeanour internally and externally when dealing with clients
  • Effective communication skills coupled with good presentation skills
  • Maintains excellent writing and language skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Understanding of design principles

Software & Qualifications

  • MS Office
  • Experience in ORM and Social Media tools such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Radian 6 is an advantage
  • A thorough understanding of social media platform guidelines and policies
  • An understanding of copyright infringement and consumer privacy on digital platforms
  • Qualifications Undergraduate degree (Marketing, Communications, English, Media Studies)
