Business Unit Director

at Creative Spark in Johannesburg

We are looking for an experienced business unit director to lead an important blue-chip brand in our JHB agency.

Experience required

  • Eight+ years of experience in an account management function.
  • Critical business understanding – achieving and exceeding forecasting, managing client budgets and agency revenue/income reporting.
  • Experience in running big blue chip businesses for an agency successfully for a number of years.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching instincts, supporting growth for a team from AEs to ADs.
  • Experience in digital, ATL and BTL marketing and Activations.
  • Must have advanced understanding of digital platforms and technologies. Platform development experience is an added bonus.
  • Would enjoy the responsibility and freedom that comes from reporting directly into the MD of the company.

Core responsibilities:

Project management:

  • As the most senior consultant on your portfolio of business, you will embed innovative thinking and strategic direction in your client business. You are able to “connect the dots” and actively seek to improve the agency’s role within the client business.
  • Work closely with project management in your team to ensure delivery and methodology applied is in line with client needs.
  • You are aware of the contractual & SLA commitments and governance requirements and work closely with the team to ensure these are delivered against.

Client management:

  • You hold relationships with the most senior clients (GM and C-suite level) and engage meaningfully to drive a partnership model.
  • You are aware of client and stakeholder dynamics and carefully navigate these to create an environment in which the agency can successfully deliver and achieve targets.
  • You engage and report at exco level on all agency progress and activity.

Creative management:

  • You hold a partner relationship with the ECD and embed innovative thinking into the core of the business.

Strategy management:

  • With a clear understanding of the broader business objectives of the client, you are able to act as a strategic consultant on all digital requirements.

Finance management:

  • You manage and steer the financial fitness of the accounts (profitability, staff and income ratios) while driving and identifying additional revenue and business opportunities to increase forecast.
  • You work with the team to finalise retainer proposals.

People management:

  • You will build a respected and acknowledged account management team, taking full responsibility for finance, profitability, team structures and operational efficiency on your portfolio of business. Happy people. Happy clients. Happy work.
